Purchase of medicines for medical organizations in the framework of free outpatient drug provision of the population of the country from 2018 will be implemented by a single distributor for the purchase of medicines.

Until 2018, regional and city health departments were involved in purchasing free medicines for patients on dispensary records. "But, given the successful experience of centralizing the procurement of medicines for hospitals through a single distribution system, it was decided to centralize procurement for outpatient drug provision," said Asemgul Erzhanova, chairman of the board of SK-Pharmaceuticals.

According to the head of the Uniform Distributor, centralization of purchases allows to reduce the prices for purchased medicines due to the consolidation of the purchase volumes. "This, accordingly, allows to save budgetary funds in procurement, and medical organizations direct the money saved for additional purchase of medicines," Asemgul Erzhanova explained.

In 2017, the Single Distributor has already procured and supplied 47 drug items to medical organizations in pilot mode. After the successful implementation of the project, it was decided to expand the list by transferring all names of medicines and medical products for outpatient drug provision included in the list of the Single Distributor to SK-Pharmaceuticals. "Thus, from next year we will purchase 450 items of medicines needed for outpatient treatment of patients," the head of the Unified Distributor explained.

To date, the Health Department has filed preliminary applications for the purchase of medicines and medical products for outpatient drug provision for a total of 101.4 billion tenge.
